Dorothy Day and the Catholic Worker Movement
Beth Kelly Ph.D, of DePaul University, introduces Dorothy Day (1897-1980), an American journalist, social activist, and devout convert to Roman Catholicism. She was one of the most interesting and controversial women of the 20^th Century. In the 1930s, Day helped establish the Catholic Worker Movement, a pacifist movement that continues today to combine aid for the poor and homeless with nonviolent action on their behalf. Shortly after her death, an effort to have Day canonized as a saint was initiated; some view this as a contradiction of Day's own values and concerns.
