Vivid Art Gallery will be hosting an exhibit for Featured Artist Lisa Goesling during the month of March. While there will not be a traditional opening for this exhibit, the gallery will be open from 11-5 PM Tuesday-Saturday during March, allowing visitors to view the work throughout the month.
Goesling will be presenting new scratchboard work in her exhibit, Digging In. Her show explores both human nature and the beauty that surrounds us, and focuses on really paying attention to our role on the planet, and how we can make things better. Thousands of years ago, Chinese artists chronicled everyday life by painting intricate handscrolls or makimonos, taking the viewer on a journey through space and time. Connected and Endless are Goesling’s way of honoring their beautiful linework as it evolves into delicate imagery, telling modern-day stories of the natural world through complex patterns, layers, and details. Just like the artists in ancient Asia, she typically works in smaller formats creating an intimate experience between the art and art lover.
Of her Helter Shelter series, which was created throughout COVID, Goesling says, “Even though the world stood still, I tapped into the endless possibilities that existed within my imagination. Music plays a huge role in how my art evolves; you can probably guess that there was a whole lot of classical and jazz playing at the time.”
Channeling pent-up energy due to the pandemic led to Goesling’s Night & Day series, with white lines breaking through the darkness, exploding with a power that reads more like three dimensions than two. Upon closer inspection, one cannot help but wonder what a jellyfish has to do with a bird. Says Goesling, “All I see are their shared shapes, textures, and patterns. With the stroke of a brush, the sweep of a knife, they evolve into a living, breathing piece of art.”
INTER/ACTION 3 explores the idea of what would happen if we couldn’t see each others differences, if we were all given the same opportunities to experience joy. The viewer is invited to create a totally different piece of art by actively repositioning the clear panels over the colored art. Abstract images emerge projecting new ways to witness our shared humanity.
Be sure to stop by the gallery during the month of March to see this truly unique exhibit!
